Bootle spans L20 and L30, sitting north of the city centre between Everton and the Mersey, with Litherland and Netherton extending the postcode further inland toward Sefton. The inner streets around Bootle town centre are dense Victorian terrace, the same stock you find in Anfield and Everton but with additional salt-air influence this close to the docks. The outer parts of L30, particularly around the Netherton estate, run to 1930s and post-war semi-detached.
The Victorian terraces in central Bootle are chimney-heavy. Party walls mean stacks are shared between neighbours, and the lead flashing detail at the abutment is almost always the first failure point. We see Code 3 lead that has gone thin and pinholed after decades of thermal movement, and in some cases the original mortar has been patch-pointed so many times that the whole flaunching needs stripping and re-bedding. Original Welsh slate on these properties is often still serviceable if the nibs have not snapped. It is cheaper to strip, check the battens and re-fix with new copper disc rivets than to replace the lot.
Salt air from the dock corridor means mortar failure at verges and ridges tends to arrive ten years earlier in Bootle than in inland Wavertree or Allerton. The Liverpool Team covers Bootle on 0151 268 8190.
